The inevitable trio of Samsun, that is, the sea, sand and sun constitute the tourism activities. The wide natural beaches with excellent type of sand across the shoreline from Yakakent to Terme are ideal for entering to sea. In Yakakent Çamgölü region, green hills covered with pine trees reach the bule sea. Sunset is worth seening in Yakakent where the magnificent beach meets the sea. Terme is also known as the place of the Amazons, the interesting and attractive warior women of the history. On the shoreline, Alaçam, Bafra and 19 Mayıs districts are among the interesting ecotourism regions of our country and are renowned with Kızılırmak Delta with its flore and fauna.
19 Mayıs district in the delta is interesting with its wild life and Galeriç forest which is totally covered with water is spring.
Samsun has important places in terms of thermal tourism. Havza and Ladik thermal springs are health centers renowned since 2000. Havza has been declared as the Termal Tourism Center by the Ministry of Tourism. The Hamamayağı thermal spring in Ladik is one of the most significant thermal spring centers of the country. The water in this thermal spring has a radioctive effect and has a stimulating impact on the organism and therefore called as the "Youth Water".
The spring waters in Havza and Ladik are medically proved to help the recovery of certain illnesses like gynecological diseases, neural diseases, joint disesases and calcification.
The plateaus of Samsun, like other plateaus of Black Sea region, are ready to embrace people who yearn for green, fresh air and silence. Reaching the plateaus in Samsun is very easy. The roads to the plateaus are suitable for traveling by car.
Ladik -Akdağ plateaus have different Vezirköprü -Kunduz Mountain plateaus have different beauties varying from summer to winter. The Kunduz plateaus are with in the forests and the forests extend toward the Altınkaya Dam Lake. Here is suitable for plateau tourism, walking in the nature, water sports, fishing, motorboat excursions and camping. The Forest Management Facilities here meet the recreational needs in summer and winter.
Neverthheless, reservation is essential. Since 1997, Plateau Festivals have been held in Ladik -Akdağ plateaus.
Apart from the natural sites, Samsun is also renowned with its historical places. The Tekeköy cave-castle settlement which had been used as settlement places since 5000 B.C., Asarkale in the Kızılırmak valley the city walls, stairs and galleries of which one can still see today and which we have inherited from 3000 years before, the rock graves of the Paphlagons and the Garpu castle which is claimed to have been constructed by the Amazons are some of these.
Samsun hosts some of the most beautiful samples of Anatolian Timber Architecture. The most interesting of theseis the Göğçel mosque in Çarşamba. No nails had been used in the construction of this mosque and it has survived for nearly 800 years.

THE KIZILIRMAK DELTA

The Kızılırmak Delta is the largest and the most significant delta of Turkey, which preserves the natural heritage of the Black Sea Coasts. The Delta in Samsun is the area beginning at the place where Kızılırmak reaches the sea. It is within the borders of Bafra, Alaçam and 19 May Districts on Samsun -Sivas Highway. At the eastern coast of the delta, there are lakes, reed areas, dunes, watery meadows and a wetland area of 12.000 ha. At the western coast, there are Karaboğaz Lake of 1500ha and the surrounding reed areas. The ecosystem of the delta wetland area is very rich in biological diversitiy. The flora and fauna richness was proved with scientific research. The delta, especially with its bird heritage and the dune vegetation is very attractive for fauna and flora. The bird types specified up till now in the Kızılırmak Delta is 311. Nearly 140 Species of bird ewe in the delta, and 100.000 waterfowls live in winter in the delta.
